Applesauce Cake with Carmel Frosting

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups shortening
1 egg
2 cups applesauce (unsweetened)
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt

Cream sugar, shortening, and egg together. Add in applesauce. Add one cup flour, then all spices and baking soda, then add the rest of the flour. Pour in a greased  9x13 pan and bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until knife comes out clean from center. The cake will be brown.

Carmel Frosting:
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
6 TBS evaporated milk
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Melt butter and brown sugar in saucepan and boil for 2 minutes. Take off heat and add in the evaporated milk. Wait until it's warm to the touch and stir in powdered sugar. Frost cooled cake.
